I saw a promo today (April 20, 2005) for a Fox News special which will air on Sunday.
As the promo opened, dramatic music played but nobody spoke. The background was red. The first image was that of a burning effigy. I couldn't tell whether it was an effigy of George Bush or "Uncle Sam." The next image (none of the images were identified) was of a dome-like structure, presumably a nuclear reactor. After that came a picture of a pile of bombs. The bombs looked to be about eight feet long. After that, a burning American flag. Next, a crowd of men demonstrating underneath a huge "Down With USA" banner. After that, pictures of men wearing head scarves and carrying rocket launchers. Finally, video of a mushroom cloud.
Banners flashed over the pictures: "Sunday," "Stealing Technologies," "Creating Facilities," and "Building an Arsenal."
Finally, a stern, yet anxious-sounding announcer began to speak: "We expose Iran's nuclear threat. Our shocking investigative report uncovers how close they really are, what their deadly ties to terrorism mean to us and how America could be on the brink of a nuclear disaster." Cut to unidentified man: "The world has to act. Decisively." Back to announcer: "Sunday, Chris Wallace hosts a Breaking Point Special. Iran: The Nuclear Threat."
Comment: I think it's time to get ready to get ready to go to war again.
then today ellen posts :
As Melanie pointed out, FOX News will air a Breaking Point Special this Sunday called "Iran: The Nuclear Threat." I also saw a promo for it on one of the FOXNews.com videos. It's chilling but more for what it bodes for US actions than what the Iranians are up to. My apprehension was ratcheted up further when I came across the following story, showcased in the "Only on FOX" box: Sharon Warns of Iran Nukes.
The article, which is a transcript of an interview with Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, begins:
Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon suggested Wednesday (4/13/05) it's just a matter of time before Iran develops nuclear weapons... He said Iran simply has to overcome a few technical difficulties to be well on its way to becoming a nuclear power. ...
As it turns out, more than half the article is not about Iran but the settlements and the Palestinians. The fact that FOX News chose to focus on Iran and highlight it is an even more ominous omen because FOX News rarely focuses on any issue of significance to the GOP without being completely in step with their agenda. Also, with Bush insisting that John Bolton remain the nominee as Ambassador to the UN, something tells me that diplomacy is not going to be a strong priority in dealing with the problem.
Just this!
"they report, You decide!"
